What to do when Child Protective Services is involved in your divorce or custody case
No one ever wants to be on the receiving end of a notification from the Department of Family and Child Services (DCFS) (also known as Child Protective Services in some areas) that an investigation about your children's safety and welfare has been opened. Whether you are going through a divorce or a parenting matter, the involvement of DCFS means that there is a real possibility that you will lose control over decisions related to your children including parenting schedule, decision making, holiday parenting time, travel, and more. In this episode, our host, Kimberly A. Cook, discusses what to do when DCFS is involved in your case, including:
- Understanding the role of DCFS;
- Responding to a notification from DCFS and what not to do;
- Getting support to navigate the DCFS process and why going at it alone is not the plan;
- The impact of DCFS involvement on credibility during a divorce or custody trial; and more.
Even if DCFS is not involved in your case, be sure to listen to this episode so that you are prepared with information in the off-chance that you need it during your divorce or parenting matter.
